Week of Jan 18th Tuesday comprehension worksheet
Sentence Stacking - Friday 7th January
It will be of no surprise that I picked a little bit of Jane (Mrs Considine) for the Friday Sentence Stacking Lessons.
You have done these a few times now and so you should be able to work through the lesson without too much support.
You may have used the film before - it has become a bit of a classic. It ties in beautifully with the War Horse work and the World War II topic. You can find it at the bottom of this page. You might want to watch it first but you can keep coming back to it.
Please watch Jane's introduction, which can be found here.
Unlike a normal lesson, I would like you to have a go at writing about the whole film. You can start with individual chunks and then try and build a story.
The Choose your Chunk sheet can be found below or linked here.
Please send the completed stories to our class email. They can be typed, photographed or scanned. I just look forward to reading them.
If you've read all the way to the end first then you might get some ideas for when the 'country' completed this writing in March. You can listen to it here.

Tuesday
Join me at 9am to share Chapter 1 of War Horse
Independent questions to think about-
Retrieve What is the first thing the narrator can remember and how old were they when it happened? Why didn’t the narrator manage to get away? What is the old horse in the next pen called? What is the name of the young boy? What does Albert name the horse? |
|
Explain how you can tell in the first pages, that the narrator is a horse? In chapter 1 - How does Michael Morpurgo make you feel sorry for Joey?
Chapter 2 What impression do you get of Albert? Describe him in less than thirty words. Why did Albert pick level ground to do training? What does Joey do when Albert’s father attempts to whip him? Why does Albert use a whip on Joey? How does this make Joey feel? Why does Joey’s mother say ‘oh dear god’?
Wednesday Read Chapter 3 of War Horse Questions to think about. Why were Joey and Albert relived that Albert was left to tend to the horse work alone? Why does Albert’s mother stick up for his father? Do you agree with her? Why does Albert’s father send him on a job?
Thursday Join me to continue reading War Horse together: Chapter 4 Independent
