Last week, we had a fantastic day celebrating World Book Day at school!
The day began with our wonderful costume parade, where children proudly showed off their amazing outfits inspired by their favourite book characters. It was a brilliant start to a day all about celebrating the joy of reading.
Throughout the day, pupils went on a Story Safari, became Story Detectives, searched the school for hidden book covers in a fun Book Hunt, and visited a library full of exciting new books.
There was so much enthusiasm, imagination and love for stories across the school. We hope the excitement from the day continues at home and helps our children keep fostering their love of reading long after World Book Day has finished.
Year 2 had a fantastic maths lesson this morning exploring tally charts. The children began learning how to collect and record data, then created their own tally charts based on the colours of vehicles passing the school. A fun, hands-on way to bring data handling to life!
We loved our first walk so much, we have come out for another one after dinner...and the sun has come out!
Maple have arrived at Leeson and are off on their first 'little walk'. The rain has stopped and spirits are high. Hopefully the walk wears them out for an early night and sleep.
Yesterday evening we had the pleasure of welcoming the new Acorn families for next year. We were so pleased with how many were able to join us to find out all about our school and what the beginning of the Acorn journey looks like. This year the children were lucky enough to take home a 'Spetisbury starter pack', full of information and fun things to do over the summer in preparation for September! It was so lovely to see so many new and returning faces and we are so grateful for those that took the time to join us. See you soon for Rising 5s!
Some of our Year 2s had a brilliant time at a "Roar & Rhythm Music Day" at Clayesmore School! We are so proud of their beautiful behaviour and effort
Year 1 have been exploring the exciting world of digital art! The children have worked incredibly hard learning how to use the different tools and features of the programme. First, we painted our own pictures by hand and then used our new computing skills to recreate them digitally. The children practised using colours, brushes, shapes and drawing tools carefully to make their artwork look just like the originals. We are so proud of the creativity, concentration and determination shown by everyone. Well done, Year 1!
A lovely, sunny afternoon for some of year 3 and 4 at their tennis festival today
Year 2 had a fantastic trip to the Museum of East Dorset today to kick-start their World War I history topic! The excitement started from the moment we set off on the coach and continued throughout the day. Once we arrived, the children stepped back in time with a visit to a WWI classroom, created beautiful paper poppies, explored real artefacts, and learned all about wartime rations, before having a go at making their own peppermint creams. The museum staff were incredibly complimentary about the children's behaviour and enthusiasm for learning. We are so proud of them!
Wishing everyone a very happy 1st May! Some of our classes enjoyed practising maypole dancing in the sun this afternoon to celebrate the season
Great effort from our Year 4 team at the netball tournament in Pimperne this week! Lots of teamwork, determination, and smiles all around and a fantastic 3rd place finish to top it off! So proud of you all!
Our lovely Year 1s have been busy preparing for their The Tiger Who Came to Tea tea party this afternoon! We're all ready for a very exciting afternoon!
Year 2 have had a fantastic start to the week! They have been busy planning and creating their very own toy car garages. First, we explored the features of existing garages, then designed our own before bringing them to life in small groups. We saw some amazing creativity from garages with lifts and helicopter pads to even one with a diving board! Take a look at the photos to see how we transformed a pile of recycled cardboard into our fantastic garages! Such brilliant teamwork from everyone involved. Well done, Year 2!

We had a VERY mischievous surprise in Year 2 today... Our classroom had been messed up! There were mysterious footprints on the floor and even a note from a cheeky troll The children quickly got to work designing and building their own clever troll traps – full of creativity and teamwork. One group even added a disco ball to lure the troll in! This has launched our new English topic: writing instructions on How to Trap a Troll. Do you think we'll catch him if he comes back?
