Spirituality at Spetisbury
What is Spirituality?
Describing the essence of "spirituality" proves challenging due to its deeply individual nature. It transcends precise definitions, varying greatly from one individual to another and evolving over a lifetime. Crucially, spirituality isn't synonymous with adherence to a religion or specific faith; rather, it's a profound personal connection that can be cultivated independently of religious affiliation.
At Spetisbury, together we grow as a tree within our community, enabling us to be happy, healthy humans. “A tree is known by its fruit.” Matthew 12:33 - our school is known by our children.
A core part of this vision is to offer regular opportunities for all members of the school community to explore their spirituality.
Spirituality infuses life with depth and vitality, embodying the very essence of humanity. It encompasses an exploration of beliefs and experiences, fostering a profound respect for diverse faiths, emotions, and values. Through this journey, we revel in the continuous discovery of ourselves, others, and the vastness of our world, igniting our imagination and creativity along the way. Reflection serves as a cornerstone, guiding our understanding and growth.
As a Church of England school, our distinctive Christian ethos permeates our approach to spirituality. Deliberate opportunities for contemplation are woven into both our lessons and collective worship, complemented by spontaneous moments that emerge organically. This commitment is evident in our students' palpable curiosity about the world and their adept use of imagination and creativity as they engage with their learning.
We provide children with opportunities for spiritual development in three ways:
Windows (Looking through and learning about):
Empowering children with opportunities to gaze upon the world, encouraging them to perceive it through fresh lenses, and inspiring wonder at the rich tapestry of life's diversity in all its splendour.
Mirrors (Looking back at ourselves and learning from):
Providing children with avenues for introspection, inviting them to delve into life's profound inquiries, and encouraging the exploration of their perspectives alongside those of their peers.
Doors (Taking forward and putting learning into action):
Providing children with avenues for introspection, inviting them to delve into life's profound inquiries, and encouraging the exploration of their perspectives alongside those of their peers.
